Here's the drawing used by the electrical crew to keep track of what's been done.   'Piped' means the conduit is in place for a circuit or run; 'Pulled' means the conductors (wires) have been pulled through them.

Ready for action....or perhaps coffee.  Here's a well worn in pair of work gloves left on top of a sheet of drywall.  The owner has retreated...perhaps for coffee, or to hunt down the foreman.

Weird Stuff number 2....this is part of the rigging used to tie-off when doing work where there is a falling hazzard.  I really like the way the shiny metal looks against this battered old piece of plywood.

When I walk around construction sites (note that I am on official business during these excursions - no one should ever enter a construction site without proper safety orientation, proper protective clothing and permission) I see things that have such amazing texture and form that I wish I had time to stop and make some photographs.  Sometimes there is a spare moment though and I'm going to present some of these shots in the next few days...these are all black and white and have been edited to add courseness and to enhance texture.  They are abstracts of a sort, and may not be for everyone.  Here's the first; concrete cutting slurry dribbled down a brick wall.

One of my favourite artists of all time was Toni Onley.  Toni was born in England but lived most of this life in coastal British Columbia.  He would travel around by float plane and produce water colours of stunning simplicity.  Ordinarily I shy away from photoshop special effects but this photo seemed to almost beg me to do it, so there you are - my tribute to the late Toni Onley.  Photo taken handheld with the trusty Canon G11; cropped and adjusted in Adobe Lightroom then shifted to watercolour effect in Photoshop CS4

Digital Orca is a life size sculpure of an killer whale; constructed of cubes that are about 225mm square.  3D pixels!

Vancouver is said to be one of the world's most liveable cities.  With all the development along the water front in recent years it's hard to argue with this - what used to be hard to access harbourfront is now urban parkland with foot paths that connect various plaza's and mini-parks.  On a clear June day can you think of anywhere finer to spend the afternoon?

Here's another photo of the Edmonton International Airport expansion.  This will be the south end of the terminal; the design team refers to it as the Hammerhead.

This is a construction photo of the new terminal expansion at the Edmonton International Airport.  The structural engineers wanted some photos of the very unique structural steel.  I lucked out with the timing of these photographs due to there having been overnight rainfall that allowed me to capture images with some terrific reflections.

Here's the last of the photos of Alexandra - at least for now.  I've had a few chances to hear this young singer/songwriter perform; I can't figure out how someone this young can be so accomplished at what she does and make it seem so easy.

Controlling the busy-ness of the background in a shot like this is tricky business; particulary in black and white.  There's a lot going on here but the shot is still all about Alexandra; I'm happy with the result.

It's interesting how the best photos come from seizing the moment.  We hadn't planned on including motorcycles in our shoot but there they where...these glimmering machines were too good to walk away from.

The camera was struggling to hold the focus on some of the shots taken in this session so I decided to go with manual focus.  There were a lot of similar shots that are perfectly in focus but I liked this one best.

Anybody who thinks that it's easy business getting your photo taken 300 times in an afternoon has never done it.  Alexandra has far more patience than words can say.  I'll just stay on my side of the camera thanks very much.

The Amazing G11

The things that the Canon G11 can do are really quite amazing.  This photo was taken in macro mode, hand held with no filters.  I think the detail in this shot is quite remarkable.
